12th Meeting of the Government-Donor Coordination Committee
(GDCC)

4 March 2008, Palais du Governement

HIV/AIDS Technical Working Group Chair's Response to the Joint
Donor Statement on Human Development delivered by Dr. Suomi
Sakai, UN Resident Coordinator a.i

We have acknowledged the effectiveness of the comprehensive and multisectoral response to HIV/AIDS that brought down the prevalence among adult from a high of 2% in 1998 to 0.9% in 2006. However, there is no room for complacency in the response to HIV/AIDS for now and the future.

Concerted efforts between the Royal Government of Cambodia, partner agencies, civil society organizations and the UN have made the proposal to the Global Fund ATM Round 7 successful. Most at risk population like the Intravenous Drug Users and Drug Users and Men having Sex with Men were covered in the proposal that will be effective from 2009 to 2013.

Current and future HIV/AIDS programme priorities were discussed at the recent TWG-HIV/AIDS Meeting. Subsequently, under the lead of the National AIDS Authority and the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Dermatology and Sexual Transmitted Infections, key stakeholders in the HIV/AIDS response have joined series of discussion to find out priorities within the priorities for further submission of a proposal to the Global Fund ATM Round 8 and sustaining and improving prevention efforts would be in the agenda. We do support your recommendation in the statement.

Series of meeting have discussed on the Joint Monitoring Indicator for 2008 and an official letter was sent to the Council for the Development of Cambodia for the inclusion of new indicator that relate to the PMTCT. The Technical Working Group on HIV/AIDS has accomplished its 2008 workplan that oriented itself to the comprehensive and multisectoral response.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank development partners for their continuous collaboration and supports to the Royal Government of Cambodia in its role to enhanced national response to HIV/AIDS.

Thank you
